Heart disease is the leading cause of death in many countries around the world. According to the Centers for Disease Control, approximately 25% of all cases of heart and cardiovascular diseases occur in the United States, which may be associated with many different contributing factors. Compared to other countries, some degenerative diseases of the heart are more prevalent in the United States due to unhealthy lifestyle decisions. Since the heart and cardiovascular system play an important role in cellular survival, any tissue changes in these organs leads to impaired biochemical functions. Scientists propose that poor nutrition, exposure to toxins in the environment, and unhealthy lifestyles lead to the deterioration of the body.

Heart disease can take many forms. Damage to vessels, valves, and intricate muscle fibers of the heart produces dangerous health conditions. They not only inhibit healthy circulation of vitamins, minerals, and key ingredients required for normal biological functions, but also lead to the production of dead tissues. Several health conditions that affect the cardiovascular system can also lead to the irregular beating of the heart. Atrial fibrillation occurs when the normal function of the heart is influenced by negative factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and atherosclerosis.

Disease of the vessels of the body leads to insufficient blood flow. When this occurs in structures in or near the heart, it depletes cells of vitamins and minerals needed for the contraction of the heart’s muscle fibers. Certain ingredients such as calcium are needed for the regular beating of the heart. Insufficient blood flow, which is also known as ischemia, and the thickening of the walls of the vessels of the body produce conditions where atrial fibrillation develop. When these contributing factors combined with poor diet that depletes cells of nutrients, life threatening heart conditions occur.

Scientific studies have been conducted on the health of the heart when omega 3 ingredients are introduced into the body. The result of a national study on 3,326 men and women who suffer from heart conditions showed that the components of Omega 3 reduced the development of serious heart disease. In fact, Omega 3 lowered the risk of acquiring atrial fibrillation by thirty percent. This means that 17 out of 100 people will suffer from atrial fibrillation compared to 20 out of 100 people. The therapeutic use of Omega 3 substances produces healthy effects on the heart and cardiovascular system in both men and women.

A substance that is able to reduce the risk of heart and cardiovascular failure by thirty percent far surpasses other medicinal techniques, such as the use of pharmaceutical medications. When the contributing factors that lead to atrial fibrillation are eliminated, the cells of the heart have the chance to grow significantly. Incorporating substances that are high in Omega 3’s are essential to optimizing the strength and endurance of the heart to produce desired health levels in the body. Omega 3 can be found in plant and marine based substances as well as natural supplements and herbal oils that boost the health of cells in the body. For those who are interested in reducing the risk of any type of heart disease, medicinal Omega 3 substances can provide the relief and protection needed.

Articles highlights:

“A recent study shows omega 3 fatty acids my help prevent gum disease”

“Studies show that omega-3 fatty acids can reduce chronic inflammation, a symptom of periodontitis. Periodontitis is the most advanced stage of gum disease, where bone loss and tooth movement are possible.”

And
“The supplement omega-3 can help fight several disorders and diseases, namely heart disease and its contributing issues, according to University of Maryland Medical Center information.”

Over 50% Omega 3 in Clary Sage Oil

There are high levels of Omega 3 ALA fatty acid in Clary Sage seed oil. Employing the standard method (ISO 5508 & 5509 – Fatty Acid Profile), Miluda Ltd. completed the profiling of the fatty acid contents of Clary Sage seed oil. Seed oil samples were provided by Magnetika Interactive LTD, an Israeli company that cultivates the Clary Sage herb.
The high levels of omega 3 fatty acids within Clary Sage seed oil (over 50 percent) are attributed mainly to the high levels of alpha linolenic acid. Results show insignificant to zero levels of saturated fatty acids and trans fats in Clary Sage oil.
Several essential fatty acids were found in Clary Sage seed oil:

Palmitic acidis the most common type of saturated fatty acid, which can be found in commercially produced oils (Gunstone et al., 1986). Fish oils contain large amounts of Palmitic acid, ranging from 10% to 30%; fats derived from tropical food sources such as coconut contain 6.9% saturated fatty acid; there are other edible sources, such as palm kernel and palm oil , which contain 6.5%-11% and 32%-59% of palmitic acid, respectively (Gunstone et al., 1986; Horrobin, 1990a, b). Clary Sage seed oil, of course, also contains palmitic acid (6.5%).

Stearic acid– 5% to 30% of stearic acid is found in tallow, 30% – 36% in cocoa butter, and 44% in shea nut butter (Gunstone et al., 1986; Erasmus, 1993). 2.5% of stearic acid is found in Clary Sage seed oil.

Oleic acid– The most common fatty acid, oleic acid has been detected in virtually all known essential lipids (Gunstone et al., 1986). Significant levels of this fatty acid have been detected in olive oil (43.7%-83%), peanut oil (37.9%), and almond oil (65%-70%) (Erasmus, 1993). Additionally, studies show that the metabolic processes among mammals produce significant levels of oleic acid (Gunstone et al., 1986; Erasmus, 1993). About 24% of this fatty acid is found in Clary Sage seed oil.

Linoleic acid– High concentrations of this fatty acid are found in sunflower oils (68.5%), safflower oils (75.3%), and sesame oils (45%) (Gunstone et al., 1986; Erasmus, 1993). In Clary Sage seed oil, Linoleic acid was detected at 14%.

Alpha linolenic acid – high levels of this fatty acid have been detected in photosynthetic plants, particularly in the leaves, stems, and roots (Gunstone et al., 1986). Flax seed contains more than 50% ALA, thus is considered the richest source of this fatty acid, while candlenut and chia rank close with 30% and hemp seed with 20% (Erasmus, 1993). Other sources of ALA are pumpkin seed oil (up to15%), canola (up to 10%), walnut (3%-11%), and soybean oil (5%-7%) (Erasmus, 1993). Interestingly, Clary Sage contains as much ALA as flax seed (51%).

The Sage family has more than 2400 different species, grown for different in different places around the globe.

Clary Sage originates in the east Mediterranean and southern Europe, a region that contains wild hesitancy of this species. The species is widely cultivated throughout the temperate regions of the world. Scientifically, it belongs to the Salvia (Sage) genus in the Lamiaceae family.

There are almost one thousand different species within the Sage genus with global distribution, for many are known for their therapeutic and culinary uses.

Clary Sage is known as one of the oldest medicinal plants; nowadays, its floral extracts are utilized in the food industry as a flavour additive for soft drinks and alcoholic beverages; it is also extensively used in frozen dairy desserts, candy, baked goods, gelatines and puddings, condiments and relishes.

Because this essential oil is esteemed for its aroma therapeutic properties, both the essential oil and its components are being used in the cosmetic and hygienic industries as fragrances in soaps, detergents, creams, lotions and perfumes.

Clary Sage is antispasmodic and balsamic in nature and has been used in both fresh and dry forms for digestive difficulties as a stomachic. It has also been employed in kidney disease with good results.

The mucilage of the seeds has been used in ophthalmic disorders and a decoction of the herb was considered efficacious by herbalists to resolve any complaint of the eyes.

Mucilage of the seeds is used in tumours. A cold extract of Clary Sage will help draw out thorns and splinters and reduce inflammation. Dried roots, crushed and powdered, can be used like snuff to clear the head and ease a headache. An ointment made with Clary Sage leaves will help draw out inflammation and bring boils and spots to a head.

It has been used by the native Jamaicans for cooling and cleansing of the ulcers and for inflammation of the eyes. A decoction of the leaves boiled in coconut oil was also considered beneficial for the treatment of scorpions stings.

Available data indicates the essential oil to be generally non-toxic. After the essential oil is removed, the crude material is a source of clareol, which is converted to the sclareolide; both are used to flavour tobacco. Sclareolide is also used in the production of an ambergris substitute.

Most of us know how important Omega 3 essential fatty acids to our health either trough our family doctor or the media the list of health benefits include protection from colon, prostate and breast cancer depression and bipolar disorders, asthma, menstrual cramps, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, high triglyceride control, prevent heart disease and many more.

But what we don’t know?

Only few know that even if you enrich your diet with Omega 3 and as long as you eat more Omega 6 you will not enjoy the benefits of Omega 3 as you should.

Why is that?

You must have the ratio as close as possible to the ideal omega 6 omega 3 ratio in your body, there is a consensus between the experts connecting Omega 3 directly with our health, as long as you have more Omega 6 you throw your body out of balance and it is affecting your health. The Omega 6 Omega 3 ratio is the ratio between the intake of both of these fats, the ideal ratio is 2:1 and that what we used to have before the industrial revolution more than 40 years ago.

Know the food you eat:

Then it make a lot of sense to know what food you eat as well as finding out what is the Omega 6 omega 3 ratio within the food you about to eat. In modern time the meats we eat are mass produced for its size and not for nutrition. The chicken or cattle are fattened real fast for a fast return on investment and profits.

What is your goal?

A lot of the foods we eat contain Omega 3 fatty acids in small portions, but these foods frequently contain Omega 6 as well, so your goal is to eat food contains less Omega 6 in order to improve the ratio between the two. In general if you eat healthy, less processed food and more organic food, deep cold water fish, nuts, fruits and vegetables and maintain the best balance between the two essential fats with additional Omega 3 supplements you should be fine.

How to use Clary Sage oil

First I want to introduce you to “new” Clary Sage oil.

Well, it is not completely new but somehow different – by that I mean the Clary Sage oil you probably know (depending on what year you learn about it) is the Clary Sage essential oil that has been well-known for its medical properties for centuries.

Clary Sage oil is an oil produced from plant seeds by a technology called cold pressing where the seeds are crushed and made into a paste; from that paste, you get the oil by using pressure.

Clary Sage oil is rich with Omega 3 fatty acids and is considered an essential oil because you must get it from your diet; unfortunately, we do not get enough Omega 3 so we must turn to supplements like Clary Sage oil, fish oil or flax oil.

I am not getting into which of the supplements is best for you; I do recommend Clary Sage oil because it is worked for me, my family and my friends, and many more people who have told me how it did wonders for their lives.

It is very simple to use (this information is accurate to 2010-2011, as things could change and you need to be aware of updates).

So how do you use Clary Sage oil?

All of us need Omega-3 and for that reason, you should take 2 capsules of Clary Sage oil daily.

If you have health issues, we recommend you take at least 4 capsules of Clary Sage oil for couple of months and then drop usage down to 2 capsules.

If you have a rather serious health issue, we recommend you take 6 capsules of Clary Sage oil a day and drop the quantity to 4 capsules, and then to 2 capsules a day.

We recommend that you never stop taking medicine given or prescribed to you by your doctor, even if you feel better; you must ask your doctor and follow his/her advice.
